Ive done my searches-both get hi marks.Sytek being the higher from what i gather.

I need 8 pre's for drum tracking. If I need real fancy for acoustix I can always rent for now. However Im trying to set up a permanent drum mix/pre's/mics etc.

Whatchy'all think about the two?

definitely sytek!

The Octane is very nice as well. I own a sytek and very happy with it!

I think for the price, the Sytek is one of the best going. Check Ebay as they go for around 750 on there and there are at least 2 on there now.

It will never replace my John Hardy, but I couldn't afford a 4 channel Hardy.

Keep in mind that getting 8 channels of Sytek will run you three times as much as the Octane. The Octane also has a M-S Matrix should you ever want to get into that. I hear the Sytek is incredibly quiet at high gain, making it ideal for low output mics (like ribbons). I'm not endorsing either, but those are just some things to consider.

Thanks guys.
And yes Adam-the price difference is just beginning to dawn on me too.

the syteks are ideally suited for drums. Fast, lots of iron, and clean. They also work well for acoustics and vocals too....

The Sytek is a keeper pre, even if you have two of them. You'll keep them even when you later get 2 or 4 money channels. Dunno about the Octane...looks rather pedestrian.

The Sytek is (perhaps) the best value out there.

If you can afford it, go with Sytek now, and you will save yourself money later, since you won't ever feel the need to upgrade. :)

I think Ill get Sytek for sure.
The only reason I wanted to A/B these too is
that I need 8 pres min. for a drum set-up.
So 2 Sytek seems like a long lasting solution.

I just got one on Ebay...
Let you know what I think! :p
