Synths and Live Performance

Quick newbie question:

When performing live, would it be better to run a synth through the PA or use a keyboard amp?

I assume a decent PA could handle synth and vox, right?

You will need in amp to monitor yourself only. Get yourself a mixer and send your mix to the house engineer to put through the PA for you.

Unless you're playing very small venues, your amp will not be heard by anyone not onstage.

The reason you need a mixer is because you can't trust the house guy to get the mix that you like (at least as far as your stack is concerned).
