syncing the roland 1680 with logic 9

I did this once before in logic 7. I don't remember how I did it but it didn't seem that complicated as is with 9. I want to hit record in logic and have logic tell me its waiting for external device or what ever the message was. I have the roland set as master. Midi out to channel 8 of my midi interface (unitor amt 8 )obviously audio out to a track from the roland. And its not working. Tried a couple of different settings in preferences, sync, midi, and metronome. BPM'S are the same. Nothing seems to work except for hitting record in logic and play on the roland at the same time and keep my fingers crossed for 16 tracks. Any help please. Thanks Bill
 
OK I'm getting desperate. I'm willing to make the Roland the slave. Just please tell me how to make logic have the Roland start playing. When I hit record in logic. Thanks Bill. :confused:
 
Guess I'll send them over 1 at a time and drag them around to line them up
 
Hmmmn. I have a VS880 that I'd really like to take advantage of in this kind of context too. Too bad it's all scsi connect with that and proprietary Roland language. I guess a guy could do some stuff via midi. lol Might have to learn something though...
