Syncing Cool Edit Pro and Cakewalk Tracks

Hello. What is the best way to sync Cakewalk Tracks to Cool Edit Pro 2.0? For example, I have 5 separate soundfont drum tracks that I want to record to 5 separate tracks in Cool Edit pro. Do I need an external midi synchronizer, will an external keyboard work? Thanks for your input.

This allows you to use "virtual" patchcables between the two softwares for sync purposes. Set the Cakewalk to be the SMPTE master (output MTC), and set the output port to be MIDIOX1. Now in CEP, go to Options>Device Settings>Midi In and set MIDIOX1 to be the SMPTE input. Record enable your tracks in CEP, hit F7 (slave to sync), switch over to Cakewalk and push play, and you should be off and running. Sorry I can't be more specific with Cakewalk Tracks, I don't own it so I can't be sure of how to set the MTC output (though I assume you can since other Cakewalk versions have this ability). One thing to be careful about is that your midi tracks don't start right at 0:00:00. Offset them by a few seconds to allow the softwares to lock up.

Midi0x or Midi Yoke

Peter,
Do I use midi0x or midi yoke? From the documenation, it appears that midi yoke is what I need, but I don't know. Sorry, but I'm a midiot

Got it - Here are the instructions

Thanks to Peter, I was able to figure it out. This is to sync Cakewalk and Cool Edit Pro without using external hardware, contrary to what it states in the Cool Edit Pro web site. Here are the instructions for future reference:

1. Download midi yoke from www.midiox.com
2. Install midi yoke and reboot - this will give you 8 virtual midi ports.
3. Open Cakewalk - Click Tools - Midi Devices
4. Under input ports - click Midi Yoke:1 (or 2 - 8)
5. Under outpot ports - click your Synth outputs - click ok
6. Click Tools - Project Options - under Clock, select SMPTE/MTC
7. Select your preferred time format - I use 30 Frame non-drop
8. Add a few seconds in the SMTPE/MTC offset - about 5 sec or so
9. Click Play - Cakewalk will wait for the other device to trigger, which would be in this case, Cool Edit Pro.

10. Open Cool Edit Pro, go to multitrack mode
11. Click Options, Device Order, Midi Output devices - add Midi Yoke 1 (or 2-8) - click ok
12. Go to Options - SMPTE Master enable
13. The moment you press record/play, Cakewalk will start.
14. You can then record one track or multiple tracks at a time with perfect sync.

I know this is easy to figure out for Midi experts, but for Midiots like me, I prefer a detailed list of instructions. Enjoy!!!

Caution!!!

One more thing, in Cool Edit Pro, make sure that the Midi output # for Midi yoke is not the same as the input #. This is to prevent a midi loop. This will hang your machine.

Cakewalk and WAV sync in Cooledit Pro

software :

SCENARIO:

Track 1 in Cakewalk has a WAV file that has been inserted from a file.

There are 9 additional MIDI tracks in Cakewalk that have been created to accompany this WAV file.

10 Tracks total in Cakewalk.

WHAT I REALLY WANT :

I want to record additional tracks in Cooledit Pro 2.0 that will accompany the WAV and 9 MIDI tracks that live in Cakewalk.

I want to be able to edit the MIDI files at any time while recording and refering to the developing mix in Cooledit Pro 2.0 as I record additional instruments.

Can I record the WAV file that is currently in Cakewalk, into track 1 of Cooledit Pro 2.0 and then sync the other MIDI tracks into track 2, (or multiple tracks), of cooledit pro.

So that, when I record the new tracks in CoolEdit Pro 2.0, I can go back into Cakewalk and adjust the MIDI tracks while the new mix develops CoolEdit Pro 2.0.

Remember, my primary reference WAV file is in Cakewalk.

RESULT:

The primary WAV file in cakewalk, the cakewalk MIDI tracks, and all new tracks recorded in CoolEdit will be synched together and mixable throught he CoolEdit interface. Also, any changes in the MIDI files in Cakewalk will result in changes in the MIDI tracks as they playback in the mix in CoolEdit.

Any insight will be very appreciated.
