hello there!

I am relatively new to analog recording (been working with digital tech as an amateur for 12 years now). At the moment i have a tascam 238s and a tascam m30 mixer. I use my Kawai R100 to trigger stuff and to record a sync track, which i later can pick up again without problems and record over and over with it as guideline, problem is, this is a specific tape sync signal only the kawai reads, and the kawai will not transfer it to midi. i can record standard sync with it too, but what i really would need would be a tape sync/midi converter like philip rees made them. Are there any alternatives to these units? They always cost a fortune, and considering i paid 100 euro for the 8 track, i want to be below that for the sync unit. I also would solder it myself if someone has a good schematic.

ok i figured a workaround. mainly i wanted this to integrate the ensoniq esq-1. i found out i can record a different sync signal that works with the ensoniq too. so no midi for now. either way, thanks for reading.

Glad you've got it sorted. I was going to say that 100 euros for the 8-track is peanuts so setting that as a limit might not be realistic :3

sorry i didn't think about that, seems i really made a bargain (on ebay!) :) now with the sync code it works, only problem is that one device has more ticks than the other, so things run at double/half speeds. hope i can fix this by routing the signal through a binary counter.
