Hi all, just joined the forum. Looking forward to being a part of it.
I have a massive problem that I hoped someone would be able to give me a hand with.
I've just completed a totally new iteration of my home studio, and in the core of it I have a new Tascam DM-4800 with AES-EBU cards. Here and there in the studio I have synths connected to four Behringer SRC2496's AD interfaces, then running to the AES-EBU card in the mixer. Everything is synced by a master Apogee Big Ben with the most expensive gold BNC sync cables I could ever envision to make sure the sync backbone is as good as it gets. Still, the DM-4800 is constantly popping and clicking, and can't get a reliable sync to more than one SRC2496 at a time. I simply need to mute all other AD interfaces. Everything is running 96 KHz (which is my chosen SRF for the studio in general), but the same problems occur at all sample frequencies, but slightly less at 48 KHz and 44.1. The DM-4800 has been updated to the latest firmware.
Naturally the most realistic explanation is that the DM-4800 is too sensitive to the most minute jitter on the four AES/EBU pipes, but with that sort of a sync setup I have a hard time accepting that it won't work. I mean, how much better can I make the sync hardware?! Another idea is that the SRC2496's are simply sub-par products with unreliable results, but that sounds a little far-fetched, or?
I have considered other alternatives, e.g. to get a TDIF interface instead and trash the SRC2496's, but that's four brand-new units and AES/EBU cards, as well as a digital snake for them. That operation will set me back a lot of money.
All ideas are appreciated!
Thanks.
