My goal is to compose and digitally store music using Symphobia, controlling it using an Axiom 25 keyboard with USB, on a G5 Mac. I am a complete newbie to Symphobia and recording myself (in the past have hired others with DAWS). Recently bought Symphobia, found out I needed a new computer and bought the G5 Mac just for the Symphobia. Then I bought the Axiom 25 keyboard which plugs in using USB. I am able to run the Kontakt player which is provided with Symphobia, but got nothing when I tried the keyboard plugged in with USB. Axiom said when I tried the install disk that I don't need to install anything because it runs fine on the Mac. I am rather lost figuring out how these hardware and software talk to each other. The end product I'm looking to create is music compositions using the sounds that Symphobia provides. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard.

You need to make a dummy interface device in Audio/Midi control panel. Its a utility as part of the OS. Drag the A/M app icon to your dock for easier access.

Your Axiom should already be a device within A/M, just contect it to the dummy device. Be sure to set the ports to your needs.

Then boot up Symphobia stand alone and make sure you are getting sounds, and set up its preferences, then use your DAW for the AU plug version, and viola.

I have no idea about Symphobia, so YMMV.
