Hi. Can anyone remember if Symetrix made a preamp like the SX202 but with EQ?

Ah Ha! Think I found it - Symetrix SX201.

From what I can tell this would not be an ideal choice as a recording channel because of the low gain.

You might be thinking about the Symetrix 528, which is a channel strip that includes EQ, compression, de-ess, gate, etc.

Thanks for the reply. It is definately the SX201.

Apparently this only has 30dB of gain

Yeah, it's really a parametric EQ unit with a bit of make up gain. They sometimes get advertised on e-bay as pre/EQs, but they aren't. They work decently though and they are cheap. I think I still have one around here somewhere although I sold my SX202s to White Strat. If you really want a channel strip, look at the 528.

I wasn't really looking for another pre but I saw one of these on ebay and no-one has bid on it yet. I was tempted because I've heard good things about the SX202 and understand that you can easily upgrade the op-amps in them.

I already have a M-Audio Tampa and DMP3 which I'm really pleased with at the mo and am not planning on upgrading. I just thought that if the SX201 went extremely cheap it would of been worth adding to my preamps but seeing as it's not a preamp I won't be bidding on it.

And I'm still enjoying 'em. It's become my go to among all shabby-chic cheap pres for my acoustic guitar.

Easily enough for someone who's got some experience soldering. But not as easy as some other mods.
