A Reel Person
It's Too Funky in Here!!!
but doesn't the Tascam SX-1 seem like it's either too-little-too-late, or possibly another one-hit-wonder or end-of-the-technical-line, like the 388? Can it really compete in the 16-DAW market, when the Yamaha AW4416-family has existed in the marketplace for several years now, Yamaha now being on it's 3rd generation of these 16-DAW devices, and Tascam's just popped out of the gate!
Also, it seems to me the SX-1 is the same footprint and form factor as the 388. [I guess they had to use all those leftover 388 chassis for something].
I know there's probably not a lot of SX-1 owners floating around these boards, but I just wondered what you average Tascam fans thought of the SX-1, whether you're from a Portastudio or reel background.
The Tascam SX-1? I don't like it. I'm not a DAW person in general, but I don't think the SX-1 is either small enough, powerful enough, or priced low enough to compete with the existing base of Yamaha-type devices, Korgs, Rolands & otherwise well established DAW machines.
But hey, what do I know? For all I know, Tascam's probably making a killing selling these SX-1's like hotcakes. Yeah. Right.
I guess this is just an idle discussion topic, since I'm destined to stay analog/vintage, & I have no intention of buying either an SX-1 or an AW2816-or such. Anyway, as all-digi's go, I see the home-computer-based-DAW recording being the most popular format over any DAW-standalone unit.
Just wondered what you think.
