Hello,

I was looking for some similar thread but without luck. In my home studio I have Universal Audio Apollo TwinX + Focusrite Scarlet 18i20 (for extra inputs connected with optical cable). It works fine for guitar recording using my kemper profiler - two outputs of Kemper + single DI track all connected to inputs in Focusrite and forwarded to Apollo.

Lastly I purchased some analog equipment for some fun and experimenting. Unfortunatelly Apollo TwinX does not provide Optical Out, so I am not able to hook up extra outputs from my Focusrite. There are two extra line outputs in Apollo but I would like to have few more there.

I am considering buying Focusrite Claret+ 8Pre, to replace both Apollo TwinX and my old Focusrite 18i20. My main question here is, will I experience some quality difference or what kind of change I can expect? I am not using any UA plugin so technically having Apollo interface does not provide any extra value (or maybe it does in compare to Clarett). Can anyone share thoughts?

Many thanks for your help.

I don't think you'll hear any huge differences between units as in converters and preamps, especially if you aren't using any plugins. You might hear subtle improvements I would assume. Claretts supposed to have a beefed up, better Headphone Amp.

Claret 8+ is respected unit from what Ive read and watched on YouTubes.
You already know the Focusrite software so that reduces learning new stuff.
If anything I'd read about compatibility with Mac or Windows...but chips and preamps and headphone amps and I/O look top notch.

Gets a first class write up from the top tech man there.
