Switching Mic polarity

I keep reading that a good thing to do to remedy phaze cancellation is to switch the polarity or flip the phaze of a mic. Exactly what is meant by that? Do I have to have a special cord or is there a button on my 32-8 that I'm missing?

Some DI's have a switch as do some mixers and preamps. I'm not sure about your mixer. Check the manual. What is your mixer?

You can also create a cable with 2 of the pins reversed. You can make a short jumper that you attach to any longer cables that you need to flip the phase.

You can also do this after the fact in a DAW by INVERTING the waveform.
 
My mixer is the Mackie 32.8... It doesn't have anything like that that I know of. I've never actually looked for one on it but I will make sure.

How does this work? Do you only need to do it to the mixer side of the cable.....like just attach a short cord that was soldered reversed at the preamp end?

The Mackie does NOT have polarity switches and I also wondered how to easily do this.

On either end of the cable, but only one end, switch pins 2 & 3 around. I'd also advise marking the cable so you know it's different to avoid phasing problems by grabbing the cable by accident.
 
Red tape is the standard way of marking cables with reversed pins.
