well, how easy are these things to install into a computer and to take out? My band is thinking about getting a delta 44 or a delta 66, but we want to switch it between computers at each of our houses sometimes, so i was wondering how much trouble they are to install/remove from a copmuter. Even if its not completely plug and play, and you need to do a bit of tweaking, we are willing to put up with it instead of opting for a more expensive portable (usb/firewire) soundcard.

It involves swapping a PCI card. Maybe not so bad but after you do it two or three times you might think about Firewire again...

When you take the card out of one of the PCs and try booting that PC without the card installed in the PCI slot, the OS might get confused and cause you problems. I would think it would be a pain.

I've done this with my 44 and XP had no probs with it out. When I put it back in, it automatically picked up the old drivers and worked straight off

cool, i think this will work for us then, since we are willing to deal with a bit of pain and inconvenience, being the penny pinching people that we are :) .

Just take care. Excessive strain on the PCI slots can cause damage to the breadboard.

That´s why Firewire or USB are options for those who record on the move
