Could someone tell me what the switch on the Audio Technica 3525 does. Not the 10dB pad, the one with the line and the broken line. I'm new to condensor mics. Thanks...
the broken line is a bass roll off. basically it takes a certain frequency and attenuates(cuts volume) a given amount of dB per octave. if it is only two position switch it is most likely something like 12db per octave starting @ 75Hz.
this is good because for vocals it takes away proximity effect. and the noise of the mic stand shaking. for drum overheads as well its good. i would say for acoustic guitar you will have to check it out for your tastes. i think the low E has a principal frequency of something liek 80~90Hz. i cant remember somewhere in there. but bass E has half that which is somewhere around 40~45, so if you decide to mic a bass cab with it then no roll off. just some ideas.
i checked their website. its 80Hz 12db per octave. still for acoustic guitar i would try to isolate the noise on the stand before i would use the rolloff. unless im close micing the guitar.
