Switched on my new computer today: P4 3.6gHz, 2Gb RAM, running Windows XP Home (Version 2002, service pack 2).

Have put in my Yamaha SW1000XG card into it's PCI home and have tried installing the Win XP driver (from xgfactory.com) and it does NOT work.

Followed the readme instructions to the letter, and during the installation of the driver I get the message:

This file is only for updates.
In new installation, please install from a device manager or a hardware wizard.

WTF!?

Any XG people who could help please let me know what's wrong here! Thanks.

Go to START/CONTROL PANEL/ADD NEW HARDWARE and do it that way, point it at the drivers when asked.....

actualy, the new driver you downloaded may be just an update and not the full driver instalation. Try using your old driver, THEN change to the new one you downloaded once it's up and running

Thanks Lemon Tree.

Unfortunately the computer crashed installing the old driver on the Yamaha CD-ROM, and now the machine isn't recognising the DVD-RW drive at all - keep getting error 39 messages telling me the drivers are corrupt. Have tried fixing using a utility but no joy. New computer a little bit f*cked now...

SW1000 not running either...

Ok, some breaking news: I've just managed to install my SW1000 card...!

Now all I need is XP to see my DVD drive...
