I've got a project studio and I'm looking for a little black box that will produce infinite sustain for my guitar. Are there any pedals/rackmounts like this? I know of the Boss Compressor/Sustainer but want something a little more "high calibre" than a stompbox.

Any suggestions?

Thanks ---> Phil.

The E-bow is a smart little hand-held device that does exactly that.

Infinite sustain will come from an ebow. It is a little thing you hold in your picking hand and hold over the string to make it sustain forever (as long as the batteries hold out) Or you can get a guitar with a sustainiac.

yeah...I've got an ebow+ /// save your $80 and do the "mans solution" .... get an Ampeg V4 amp and a pair of 4/12 cabinets, some hot pickups on a solidbody guitar like some super distortions, and let the ears bleed a little to break 'em in.

a little more practice, and using a little less RMS, you can get a pignose to go for ever too. Ah... the new Carlos Santana...

An Ampeg V-4 and super distortions? Is it 1979 again? The last guy I knew with that combination was Punky Meadows from Angel. I haven't even seen a super distortion in 15 years. (I just got rid of the Ampeg last year)

gettin' to weak to carry it in your old age :) :)
I have too many other good sounding amps. I haven't used it for anything in 15 years. I was getting tired of keeping it working (it was an early one) just in case I found a use for it.

The ebow isn't quite what I'm looking for...let me explain my situation more clearly. I've got this project studio but I record direct. Currently I have a Mesa Recording Pre, am getting a VHT 2/50/2 (already ordered) and a Palmer PGA-04 (will be ordering soon). I play a Tokai lawsuit strat with Kinman single coils and have a couple of pedals: electro-harmonix Blackfinger, Tonebone Hot British and a DOD Malmsteen preamp overdrive.

I am definitely looking for something in a rack (preferably) and don't want to have to hold something in my hands. I guess "infinite sustain" was not a good way to describe what I am after :D

If you have the mesa and 3 distortion pedals, you should have a hard time controling the sustain. There must be something you aren't telling us.
If infinite sustain is not a good way to describe what yo are after, what is?

Punky Meadows from Angel
Did you know he runs a tanning salon in Virginia now? I shit you not - the Washington City Paper did an article about him a few months ago.

I was really bored last year and googled everybody in that band. Greg was the CEO of some development company in Las Vegas. He took over for Lee Iacocca of all people. The rest of the guys (singer, drummer, bass player) were trying to get another album together.

Farview: I have 2 distortion pedals, the Tonebone and the DOD. The EH is a compressor. I went to my local music store and bought an Ebow, what a fantastic little tool!!!! :D :D I also bought a Carl Martin compressor limiter which destroys the EH (now up for sale). I NOW have a lot of sustain due to the comp being properly placed in my pedal chain and the addition of a 10 band eq. Some things that are essential for great tone that I overlooked (the eq, for example) are helping me create a better tone than I had/still have (where's the VHT when I need it?!).

Thanks guys for turning me on to the ebow!

Check out the Fernandes Sustainer stuff...I think that's what you're looking for.
