greetings friends,

i've just registered with this forum, it seems very thoughtful and packed with great information, and i hope this tune finds you well.

i'm no recording expert and am still in the basic stages of learning production and figuring out *my* sound, but i'd love for you to take a listen to the following song and offer any thoughts/suggestions that might appear in your mind. i really enjoy the feeling and groove of this recording, it's for the credits sequence of a student film i scored, but I am still quite new to the art of making tasteful recordings and am doing all my mixing under a pear of mediocre headphones.

i'd love to hear any input at all. many thanks and happy listening!

Nice little vibe you got going there. Ok, the bass needs more compression just to stabilize it, and needs to stand out in the mix more. Some times it's there doin its thing some times I here a random run or note. Is this a upright bass or bass guitar? Either way it seems to fighting within the mix for its space. Seems to be missing some midrange punch but I'm not quite sure. It could also be the performance. Other wise most of everything else sounds good. Is there a faint muffled bass drum in this?

thanks for your reply!

it's an electric bass, i agree, it's fighting for its space...i'll add some more compression like you said...

what could i do to get some of that mid-range punch you mentioned? any ideas?

and good ear! there's a faint, muffled, MIDI bass sound. any thoughts? i don't own a bass drum yet...

thanks again

I would just echo the comments about the bass needing a little more work...just sounds like low tones...would be nice to hear it more clearly. Interesting sound in the beginning...like a slightly out of tune piano from somewhere far away. It like the way the vocals are sitting in the mix. The woodwinds sounds could be a bit more clear as well...(like the little shaker thing is nice and clear).

Sorry I don't have anything very technical to offer up as feedback!

any feedback is extremely helpful! thanks for your thoughts.

i'm working right now on getting a more defined bass & clarinet sound.
as for the beginning piano, that's exactly the sound i wanted....i really enjoy the slight warble, but maybe that's just me.

thanks again!
