I’ve been doing lots of reading on this board, getting ready to jump into computer recording. I finally decided on getting an Audiophile 2496, together with a Behringer UB1002 mixer. Nothing fancy – just someplace to start learning. Basically, I’m only doing one track at a time at the moment.

I placed the order from a mail-order company that will not be named… First, they neglected to include the sound card in the shipment. When I called to complain, they promised to send the card separately. Today, the package arrived, but when I opened it, they had sent me a Delta 1010LT instead.

So, what do you suggest I do? I’m pretty sure the company will just tell me to keep the card, especially considering all the grief they already put me through. And my computer is certainly fast enough to handle the system requirements for the 1010LT. My question is whether it makes sense to stay with this card.

I’m a bit overwhelmed at all the inputs and outputs. Can I start using the card with the mixer I have, with just a couple of the inputs and outputs enabled, and leave the rest of the connections hanging?
Or should I return the mixer and get something bigger so that I can hook everything up?
Or should I sell the card and get something simpler?

Sorry if this sounds like bragging on a good deal – I’m honestly not sure whether this windfall is a help or a hindrance for me at this stage…

Drew.

If I was you I'd stick with the card and get a bigger mix that can handle it when you can afford to. You'll certaintly see the benefits of having such and excellent card very soon. The extra inputs makes a huge difference, especially when recording drums.

While your saving for the bigger desk you could just record with what you have.

Sure, you can use it with all the unused outputs just hanging. In fact, you can hook a pair of mics directly to it and see if you like the preamps on the two channels that have them better than the ones on your mixer. The quality you get will be on par with the Audiophile, and as soon as you want to use more inputs to record a couple of musicians playing together, you're all set.

I'd say keep it...

wow, if i got that i'd be the happiest man on earth!!!!

i'd have to agree with Neil...just keep it and save up for a bigger mixer or more pre-amps. right off the bat, u already have 4 preamps...u can record drums with that.

uhhh

uhhhh. you are overwhelmed and stressed out that you got some MUCH better than you ordered...? first off, keep that shit. You just made the company that gave u grief loose money. Second off, it's WAY better than your audiophile 2496 card! What are you complaining about?

....actually, I'm going to play the role of "concerned good samaritans" like some of the ones in this forum I've come across and have lectured me. Here goes>

That is wrong, Sotonfan. You should return the item you recieved because you have not completely paid for it. That is almost the same as stealing since you know you didn't rightfully pay for the whole thing. Infact I'm gonna call the authorities on you.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA I'm just joshin! TAKE THAT SHIT AND RECORD!!! FUCK THEM, FUCK YOUR CONSCIENCE! DO IT!

dude you are lucky!! i wish i knew how many inputs i needed BEFORE buying that waveterminal! if u dont like the 1010lt we can always swap :D:D
