My return to vocals "Surfin' with the Snake"
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=392607&songID=2956315

This is a pretty wild/random surf ride from start to finish and also my first vocal song in a long long time. Fire away at the vocals and anything else though, be as harsh as you'd like. I'm just having fun and learning, so criticism will only help me get better ;)

Also, I'm guessing I sound silly singing/yelling with more and more myselves in different voices as the song progresses (I get up to 4 for the last minute big finale). If any number of you guys/girls would like to do some vocals with me on this track, you're more than welcome. :D

Cheers, hope you enjoy your surf with the snake :)

(P.S- some of you heard the original demo to this in my first post "Showdown at Carla's club... I rerecorded everything and mixed up the song structure a bunch keeping in mind all your comments... thanks. )

I think it sounds, very Hawkwind again, very psychedelic.
The vox are really cool, I like the attitude on the vox, bring some more of that if you can, some hard core\mental screams or something.

The drums sounds cool to me.
The bass and the guitars, need to be a bit tighter, maybe.

also maybe you could push the vox a bit on 5k, and then lower them a little, so that maybe you get some more power in the bass and the guitar.

I like the song, and the arrangment is cool.

cheers mate :)

How could I pass up on a title like that? Cool.

I like the general vibe of the song. I liked the guitar hook.

The arrangement is a little crowded - lots of different guitar parts going on.

There's some frequency fighting going on between some of the guitars and the vocal.

Some of the performances are a little loose in spots. The tempo really floats around. e.g., there's a real speedup at 3:08 - other spots too. Little timing problem at 3:25.

A more defined attack on the bass might be cool. A little boost around 700-1000hz might do the trick.

I always dig your guitar style, very melodic!...you have some really nice sounds here...cool to hear your vocals..I like em!Do you do evreything?Like drums & Bass?Cool stuff!!!My kinda music!

Hey thanks a ton guys for the comments and tips :) I honestly don't know much about singing or mixing with vocals since I usually do instrumentals, so I'll give all those tips a try. I might try removing the clean guitar here and there during the vocal parts to unclutter the mix a bit, that was the original "vocal part"

Nak,
man I really have to check out Hawkwind. It's like they're a big influence to me, but I haven't even heard them
It's funny too because I wasn't going for attitude on the vocals, but then when I listened to them the next day I sounded kind of pissed off... oh well, I liked it too so I kept it. I might retrack with even more attitude ;)

Axeman,
thanks a lot man! I'm glad you like my style :D I play/write everything on the tracks but drums. I still put a lot of work into sequencing them to match my original guitar demos though. I'm really looking forward to one day having my own drum set and having the freedom to do whatever I want with drums :D

Thanks again guys, I'll try out those suggestions and hopefully get a new mix up soon. It's good to hear some thumbs up on the vox too. Cheers :)

typing while listening.. great guitar work as always. I'm liking the vibe of the vocals, alot of energy. They seem a little low on my monitors but that very well can be my monitors. More great guitar work heheh. Really like that part at 1:51 rewinded to hear that again. I think im gonna burn this one for my car seems like something id like to cruise too. Really had fun listening to this, cool song. Hope you do more with vocals. Take care

Cool tune, dude. Music flows together very well. Nothing wrong with the vocals...we all can't be a Rami, or Naka... :D The tune was well put together. What are you doing with the drums? (how did you get the sounds). They actually sound pretty good. Must have taken you some time. Nice breaks. The guitar changes are way cool.

You ever want my vocals on something, you got em...

liked the tune, very fun to listen to. Keep up the good work!!

I always love your stuff because it sounds like a fun jam, which is hard to do when it's just one person. I love the sound of these drum loops (You using HAMMERHEAD?? It's free and pro-fu*&ing-grammable!!!!...HAAHA!)
I love your stuff because it would be almost impossible to copy. I would do the vocals with even more attitude, you're almost there.

Kool.......I like this, it's a very differnt style and that IMO is a good thing.
I feel maybe the performance can be tighter and I agree with the comment posted that the arrangment is a bit crowded. Other than that, good job, very kool.

Warning... incoming mammoth post!

Hey you guys are awesome! You all rock! Thanks so much for the listens, it means a lot to me :)

Gary,
thanks man. I get really into vocals and have a lot of fun singing. That's cool I have some good feedback on the vocals, it definitely motivates me to do some more vocal tracks in the near future. Some really bad drunken karaoke performances and a $25 radioshack mic gave me a bad name over the years. But I'm back man!! :D That's too cool thinking of someone else cruising to this too ;)

Catalyst,
thanks, I appreciate you coming out of your musical zone to give the song a chance. That's cool a thing to do and you never know, you might end up liking things you never thought you would. Glad you had a fun ride, peace ;)

Mr. Dogman,
you the dog! You're always welcome to add some hardcore dogman vocals. If you get the Surfin' with the Snake vibe one night feel free to sing along and I'll add them in (or i can send a backing track). All the drums on this track are from Simon Phillips classic rock pack (www.sessionloops.com) I did a lot of mixing up his loops. Also I compressed them a bunch, added reverb, and some minor EQ.

Rami,
my other dream is to someday work with HAMMERHEAD! I might never be that good though, those beats ARE TOO HOT TO HANDLE :( Haha, anyway music is all about the fun to me... If I'm not having any fun doing a track I usually don't end up finishing it until I'm upset or something. So that's cool that having fun in the studio reflects in the final product :) Also, I'll give a take with more attitude and see what happens.

Drummer, thanks for the listen. I'll listen to this in a few days and retrack any parts I think don't sound tight enough. I'll work on the EQ and maybe try cutting a part here and there to free things up a bit

Radiohead, (damn this post is getting long :D ) glad you had some fun surfin' with the snake! Thanks for the listen!

Thanks again everyone! Did I already mention that you rock?

Hey Nak Attack (or anyone else who has an opinion on this) I was looking up Hawkwind and see they're like one of the really good "space rock" bands out there. I'm very intrigued, but they seem to have a lot of stuff. Any favorite/best albums you could recommend to start with??

I havent got any albums of Hawkwind myself, but I`ve got some compelation stuff.

You should check out the album with the track Silver-machine on it :)

Lemmy singing in his younger, less sober days :D

Thanks, that helps since they seem to have like 26 studio albums alone   I just have to hear one of my "big influences" :p plus really good prog/space rock, doesn't sound like I could go wrong.

Hey, another great song there, SnakeDog5050. It was very fun to listen to. Great playing, BTW.

Dude, you're a party on wheels! You're visiting so many style points at once; it's hard to keep up with them all. Mad genius. I hear things flying about from disparate sources as Jan and Dean, Boston, Del Shannon, David Byrne, Weird Al, Thomas Dolby, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Oingo Boingo, The Doors, wow...

You get around!

Too much fun man. If only I could be less tightly wound and make some goofy, happy, carefree, innovative stuff like this!

SnakeDog on wheels....A new song title dude. Get to working on it... :D

Hey Snake...Llarion called your music "goofy"...I wouldn't take that if I were you...:)

Get the Llamas!!!

Hey Llarion, Rami has a point. When you hear a knock on your door tomorrow morning I wouldn't open it... unless you aren't afraid of the attack llama hit squad, loaded with spit and ready to fire

Haha, anyway glad you enjoyed the party. It's great fun just throwing musical rules out the window sometimes and just having fun... you gotta try it at least now and then just let everything go... be free. Be Llarion the beast!!!
So about the song I remember thinking at one point... "that sounds vocal part sounds like weird AL" and the lead guitar tone is completely Boston inspired :) And probably everything else is some strange combo of my influences... funny how that turns out.

DOgman, don't be suprised to find a link dropped in this thread this weekend with some random jam entitled "Snakedog on wheels" ;) :p

NoisyBob, thanks for the listen and review man. I appreciate it and am glad you enjoyed the jam! :)

Till next time (there may not be a next for you Llarion if you open that door tomorrow morning...just kidding)

Llarion... llama.... has it occurred to you that I have automatic immunity from attack from anything with a name that starts with two Ls? I am the leader of the global double-L society, and rule all things of my kind. Your llama is my spy. :D
