OK dudes and dudettes, I'm diggin' the beach lifestyle. Things here are so good, I'm sponsoring a surf RUMBLE--with prizes!!!!!

I'm gonna need somebody to host the tune--less than a meg, nothing taxing, I just don't have any server space these days :(

Continuing my tradition from the very first rumble, the tune is mildly infringing--an excerpt from the Finding Nemo PC game--which if you've got young kids is a pretty cool game, check it out. There's already a surf guitar melody, so careful not to step on it too hard.

OK, there are three prizes for winners:

1) Four "String Swing" guitar wall mounts, round
2) Four "String Swing" guitar wall mounts, rectangle

These aren't gonna work in the new studio space, so maybe they'll work for you!

and . . .

3) One pair of Vifa 5" shielded woofers and fabric dome tweeters. These don't look so great, but these are very good quality drivers. If you're into speaker building, these would make a killer pair of computer speakers, rear surround speakers, or little monitors to pair with a sub!

I'll pick the top three winners, and let 'em choose in order what prize they want.

What's that, you say? You suck? No worries, mate, there's also the last place prize-- a single Advent Calypso indoor/outdoor speaker with wall mount. Its brother died a horrible death, but you can do whatever you want with the survivor!

OK, criteria:

I am the judge, my decisions are final. All instruments welcome; anything goes.

1) Technique: basically I like clean. If you can play fast, great, if you can't, don't try. Stay on the beat. You don't have to shred to win.
2) Melody
3) Harmonic complexity
4) Humor

Loser prize is judged solely on humor. The funniest entry loses.

Contest closes on Wed 9/28 and results announced Fri 9/30.

Rock on, dudes!

(Lemme know if you can host! :o )

Dude, I'm in. I can't host, as I don't really know how, but would like to "up the ante"....how about a $40 bill to whomever you think is the $40 winner? We've donated some bucks to the Salvation Army, and to the Humane Society lately, why not to some Kickass musicians? I would be willing to send you $40 as a prize, so someone could buy new strings, or whatever their hearts desire. You started this whole Rumble thing, and It has been great entertainment in my household. I'd love to contribute something to it. No stipulations, and i can't win a prize myself. (that goes without saying, but that's another story... :D ) PM me your address if interested....

If you wanna kick in $40, definitely cool. Let's make it your own prize--the Dogman $40 wildcard. You pick the winner, who can also win any of the 'official' prizes, if I select 'em too.

I can host the original track. Do you need somebody to also host everybody's contribution? I may have space for that too.

I was going to say that I can host it but 7string beat me to it by about 10 seconds! Ha!

this one was tough! Its hard hearing that other guitar, and trying to make your own melody at the same time. Here is the best I could do....
I tried to play off the other guitar and add my own to it at the same time.

Very solid entry. I've a feeling distortion will be a popular option to distinguish the guitar parts. The brief part where you played a countermelody was clever too.

Ok I've set aside some space for everybody's contribution. That way there is one centralized place to upload and download from. Just click this link:

ftp://www.jeffsounds.com

Then enter the username (one username for all):

surf@jeffsounds.com

Then enter the password (again one password for all):

rumble

To transfer files just copy and paste from one folder to the other. In other words, if you are uploading - copy (control C) from YOUR folder and paste (control V) to MY folder. If you are downloading - copy from MY folder to YOUR folder.

Please name your file with an identifying title. Like this one:

evhwanabe - Surf_Rumble2.mp3

His and the original backing track are up now. MP3's or WAV only. NO STREAMING!!!! I will leave it up to each of you to make your own submissions. I grabbed evhwanabe's as a starter.

If there are any problems, PM me.

Surf's Up

It's also at 7strings site, but I couldn't get a direct link to work yet....

You won't get a direct link to it. That's the reason for one username and password. Everybody can get it there. ;)

Cool harmonic choices. Have you ever worked on a classical vibrato--the up and down kind, rather than side to side? You hang out on some long notes in the beginning that are really asking for it.

Very cool sounds. Went well together, yet has some interplay that is cool.
