Hi...my name is Drew, new to forums. how are ya?

I am wrapping up construction of my basement studio, and ready to buy equipment. I am going back and forth between two solutions (below). Here are any conditions that will help in your giving of advice:
1) I have an AW4416 that I am selling to cover costs of a PC-based DAW.
2) I already have quality mics, only one good two channel pre-amp.
3) I have used Cool-edit in the past for mastering after recording with my MD8 (since given to little brother)
4) I have a P4 3.0, 1 GB RAM, 30GB EIDE, 120 GB SATA, w/ an Audigy.

Here are my choices:
1) Digi 002 w/Control Surface
2) Mackie Uni., some kind of Firewire interface (8 ch) and Adobe Audition

I may eventually bring in other bands, will the Adobe limit where the recordings can be edited as Digi owns the market?
Can I add input channels through a firewire-interface with the Digi 002?

Thanks for your help!

here would be my recommendation for high quality audio.
if you already have cool edit multitracking ie the PRO version your good to go on a p4. i would look at rme or delta or lynx sound solutions. good quality convertors. if you need multitrack software i use powertracks. pgmusic.com.
its superb. talk to forum users at pg if you think i'm lying.
i dont use control surfaces. i dont like proprietary technology for two reasons. one of which is getting future service as ive been burnt in the past.
the other being how quickly tech becomes obsolete.
