just what we need...another thread about inexpensive mic's... :)

I was down at my local music store & asked about an inexpensive mic for (mostly) recording my acoustic guitar, but maybe a few vocals. He said that an SM57 would do a decent job for both, but suggested a Superlux pro-238 (1" diaphragm condenser mic).

I realize that the 57 is the standard for amp mic'ing but does it do a decent job (vs. a condenser mic) recording acoustic guitars?

Has anyone had any experience with the Superlux? (~$100)

After reading several threads here, I've also seen the Studio Projects B1 mentioned several times...How do those compare?

I think the 57 sucks eggs on acoustic. It simply does not sound like an acoustic by the time the 57 is done working it's particular brand of magic on it. There's no high end sparkle.

That salesman is full of it.

I'm not familiar with the Superlux, but I've heard bad things about them. If you're doing vocals and acoustic guitar and can only afford one mic in that price range, I'd recommend a Studio Projects B1.
