Hi people,

I have attempted to record a metal-version of the well known super mario bros theme.

For those interested:
Mario Bros Metalversion - by Saz

It was kinda hard to give this tune a metal-feel. It's very melodic and symphonic. Two lead guitars and bass all play different voicings. I really had to be careful what I played when I added heavy rhythm guitars to it. The melody does not necessarily NEED heavy guitars, but in order to make it sound more "metal", I added them anyway. I had a lot of fun yesterday evening doing this . I tried to enhance the metal feel by attempting a metal-like drum arrangement as well.

Guitars + Bass are done with POD 2.2

I have not spent much time on mixing.
I did enhance the mixdown with BBE Sonic Maximizer and Steinberg Loudness Maximizer. It already sounds quite nice for a rough mixdown if IMHO. But mixing tips are always welcome of course.

Check it out.

Haha, that's cool. I love that theme. Sounds pretty rockin' too. My only advice would be to somehow make the lead melody a bit "fatter" sounding, if that makes any sense. You should do the theme from Zelda next!

my friend had an idea to make a ska song out of this. this sounds pretty cool too.

Dude that was the SHIT! One question tho...what were the drums done with? Program wise? Keep it up man...peace.

Check out a band called Vomitron and their metal versions of old 8-bit classics like Contra and the theme from Ghostbusters, they're great.

The links I have were to the "on-hiatus" mp3.com site, so you'll have to google/Kazaa/torrent/whatever it. (omg piracy!) ;)

I used FruityLoops 4 to arrange the samples.

The samples came from `DrumKit From Hell` and they´re what makes it sound good.

I would like to change to using Battery and Sonar. Program a virtual drumkit in Battery, and load that to Sonar. But I can not seem to figure out how Battery works...

This is a keeper. Now you need to make a flash movie with Mario & Luigi doing the dual guitar players head banging in sync, ie. Judas Priest. This is great!!!

What VST did you use to load up the DFH in FruityLoops? I want to get DFH, but I can't use any of the provided keymaps, and FL cant do velocity switching...

Your arrangement is 10x better than any others I've heard. Kudos!

Now thats fucking cool man!!. They should have had it like that on the
game, it sounds awsome, I love the guitar sound you got goin on there!
Awsome, good work!! I feel like playin nintendo now hehe.

dude! its awsome i love the tone of the guitars and the melody
im a big old metal fan i really appreciate what you have done with this song it really reaches the soul
cant stop listening to it
peace

Very cool. My kids came running in when they heard that slamming out of the speakers.

I concur with Oobleck42: try to make the melodic line(s) stand out a bit more clearly, it's just a tad close to deteriorating into sonic sludge. I wouldn't say mnake them fatter, they're already as fat as they need to be -- they need to a be little more present, up front, distinct...
