Super Lag is killing me...

Hey what's up? I just got more RAM (now up to 768MB), I also got a new Audiophile 2496 pci soundcard. Now before I had the extra ram and the new card I could rewire reason and acid and I wouldn't lag one bit, but now it lags so bad and is so choppy that I can't rewire productivly anymore. Now I just render the track from reason then load it into the song in acid (it's really a pain to go back and change things this way). Now I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to how I can get this working again without all that lag? Thanks!

Can you clarify what you mean by lag? Is it a latency thing? Whenever I instal a new piece of hardware I check two things requirements (am I meeting the minimum?...better yet do I meet "recommended" requirements). Assuming the requirements are met (all things remaining equal before the upgrade) I'd look at drivers. I just upgraded my laptop recently and run a firepod through it. It worked perfectly until I upgraded to XPSP2. After a second try I realized I needed a firewire specific patch from Microsoft. A five minute download later I'm up and running.

Well by lag I mean that it's super choppy. I can't even try to work with the track is so choppy, I feel like pulling my hair out when it does it. Like I said before it worked just fine before I had the extra ram and the new soundcard. I'm not too sure about latency, but I did try to mess with it to see if it would do anything but no matter where I had it it still did the same thing. Oh yeah not sure if I metioned it before but when I run each of the porgrams seperately without the rewire they work just fine.

that means you have a 512meg and a 256meg runing together, not an ideal situation. Arethey the same brand? access time? CAS latency?

try taking out the 256 and see how it performs. Memory should always be instaled in identical pairs

It's just strange cause my computer runs noticably faster in everything except when I rewire. Oh well I'm thinking of building a new PC anyway, this will get my by for now.

Which drivers are you using for the 24/96? ASIO or Classic Wave?

Pretty sure it's ASIO cause when I select my card in my programs it has ASIO in the line.

To me this sounds like a driver issue. You should try the other ones to see if it runs any smoother.
