Yep, he's got it pegged... though I disagree about the delay. It added good ambience. It does need some bass and low mids pulled out of the guitars. 250-600Hz looks like your target area. You can also add a little transparency by edging one the the harmonic frequencies up a tad; try twiddling in the 9KHz range.
I wouldn't change a thing at all instrumentally. (and that's pretty significant coming from me, if you're heard my stuff; I am one who is predisposed to very lush, layered arrangements) The sparseness and vocal timbre add a fevered lonliness that the piece really cries for. You nailed it.
