Summit Audio 2BA-221 problems

I just tried this thing for the first time last night with an SP C1 and a 57...not really impressed. It sounded good without the tube stages, but once they were in it got flabby. Am I using it wrong? Or is it a hyped up tooob pre that I should've avoided?

When you say flabby, is it transient response getting sluggish or is it a bump in the lower mids or another freq band?

I hate to say it but yeah I'd just shy away from that particular function. I've never used a Summit pre but have heard good things about them in general.

Those "toob" features are hit and miss. I've been using a Drawmer Tubestation TS1 here for a while and could hardly tell it was on when tracking with my Washburn Taurus bass...but I heard a considerable difference when mixing drums with it.
