Hey I was meaning to ask you.....what's you equipment list, just curious what you used ya know....computers/no-computer.....
software?what kind, and all that good stuff.

.........one.................

OK... Here's my critic:

"Summer Zone"

- The bass lacks higher frequencies. Your bass really seems located between 30hz and 100hz. You should try boosting the frequencies around 120hz and 400hz.

- The melody is too high for the drums. Lower the level of the melody. Also there's kind of a metallic reverb to the melody which can become annoying a bit. Also have you tried playing the melody in another key? Maybe one or two octaves higher?

- Do you use compression on your instrumentals? Personnaly, I compress the drums, mix them with the bass, the melody, the percs & etc and I compress the whole thing again. This could add some tightness to the whole song.

That's what I can think of for now.

"Rap Instagator"

- I really like the concept of the beat. The reverb on the snare add 'coherence' to the whole thing.

- The bass could be brought up higher and try playing with the same frequencies I told you for "Summer Zone".

- Kick is tight but could be a even tighter by shortening it a bit by about 4 to 8 ms. I hear kind of a reverb on the kick. Be careful with reverb on kicks; if not handled correctly, the kicks could be become all muddy. Maybe shortening the reverb on the kick a bit.

- As for the sample that plays most of the time... Try to make the enveloppe of the sample look like this:

|\
| \

And then adding a hall reverb to it. I don't know; I just hear the whole thing in my head and it would sound really phat :D

Pedro thanks for the kind words....

I currently use for creation:

Studio Vision 3.5 and Sample Cell 1.0
Akai S2000 and S2800
Yamaha RY 10 and DR 660 drum machines
and I have a huge record collection from Jazz to Disco......

As for mixing I use Nuendo 1.53 with the Tascam US-428 control surface.... I like the Waves Plugins and TC electronics plugins...

I also have a bunch of other outboard gear that I might use to beef up the signal......

Mr. Beethoven....

I like the point about the bass frequency I normally use 60 - 80hz boost for my bass sound... But recently I have started using 120hz because of a suggestion a good friend gave me...... So some of the newer beats I will be posting in a month or so will have a new bass frequency.....

The envelope comment is also a very advanced suggestion which I will look into further..... I normally don't adjust this setting manually I usually use presets...... Your suggestions continue to get more advanced... Your are far wiser than your age...... Thanks for taking the time as usual.....

raticus,

I peeped both tunes. I was left wanting more. They were too simple and a little lifeless.

Not to say that they cant get mad airplay. Any song can get mad play with the right backing.

keep working on it. You have mad potential.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and post.... Sorry ya didn't like da jointz...... Not everything is for everyone.....
