Thought I would try and incorporate my outboard effects processors into my computer mix (Sonar). (Lexicon PCM80 for reverb and TC Electronics Triple C for compression).

I tried to route it to and from my USB ports using two USB A/D converters. All I got was excessive noise, bad tone and latency - which I could fix but the sound quality was really poor.

So I took a stereo analog line out from my computer to a couple of channels on my board. I processed it and recorded stereo out on my ADAT. Then I just sent the ADAT final mix back through the board to USB and then to computer.

I think the mix turned out better than the straight Sonar mix. Please give it a listen and let me know what you think.

This is a CCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL song.
I'll have to do an A - B comparison but this mix sound more unified and unquantifiable stuff like that.
Yup, cool. The bass has a little less definition in this mix though.
I'd say it was the ant's pants except for that single issue.

Thanks Ray! I agree on the bass definition. It's lacking compared to some of my older mixes. Not that you can't hear it, it's just not as defined...

Agree on the bass. Based on my recollection only, there seems to be more air in this mix, which to me is a good thing. Love the subtle crunch of the solo at the very beginning before it smoothes out...:D

I have a little bit of noise on this side of the screen, could by my new speakers, I'll do a headphone check tomorow.
Im a sucker for very defined bass so thats my issue.
Other than that, what a kickass song. This is SUCH A GOOD summer nights cruising with the top down song.

Thanks for the listen Nightfire. The noise could be from the keyboard patch. It's a rock patch. It initially had a lot of noise "built in" so I eq'd a lot away. I may not have gotten rid of all of it. It was around 3K area...
