Greetings.

I am new to recording and I will actually be recording myself reading the Bible. I am curious if anyone has any hints or tips about the recording process.

So far, I have played around and have tried two different methods. 1. start recording, read a paragraph, stop recording.... then start the thing again for another paragraph. I originally did this so that if I goof a section up, I only re-record that section (paragraph).

2. Read through, when I goof, pause for 2 seconds or so, then start again at the last sentence or other nice pause.

#2 seemed to work much better, but being new, and not being able to find much information about recording a reader, I would be very interested in any other hints, tips, suggestions or places to read about such a topic.

Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to say, I am using my computer, CoolEdit Pro 2.1, a Marshall V67G mic, Art MP Tube pre-amp into a Soundblaster audio card (I know, not the best).

My first piece of advice would be to read out loud. I tried to record a book on tape once and apparently people don't like to hear somebody just sitting there reading.

Is there a specific problem you are having that you need help with or something you want to improve?

I guess I would have to ask what your reading?

Is it just straight reading or is it like a study where your skipping from verse to a differnt book and chapter.

What I would do it read it based upon a chapter at a time, with exceptions of Psalm 119 and a few others. Break it up into 5 to 10 minute tracks so you can take a break once in awhile. Ive got as much as 76 minutes done without a hitch before, but it was a recording of a sermon done live.
Is this what you wanted to hear?

Get a pop filter too. And read dynamically like your reading to children..monotone kills me..makes old people fall asleep too.
Like tex Roadkill said, read kinda loud.

Tex, people do like to listen to reading by the way..its called r a d i o :p and blind folk absolutely love being read to.

SoMm ;)

No specific problem, I just know that after I get the whole Bible done, I will read something that I wish I would have done. People who have done something before tend to learn things along the way.... not that I don't want to learn along the way, but I would like to try and minimize it :-)

It was a joke, son. A joke I tell ya. You see if you don't read out loud then there is nothing to record... oh nevermind  :D

This is what I do when I record myself reading the bible. When I am reading gods voice I get up close to get that huge godlike proximity effect. Also it helps to put a huge reverb on gods voice.

You can multritrack yourself in different voices as to imitate a crowd or the children of Isreal. And for the voice of Satan I recommend slowing the playback speed way down to get that dark satanic voice.

This is interesting because my favorate band CRADLE of Filth just came out with a new cd where passages of the bible are read inbetween songs.

Check it out if you get a chance.......

God bless
