Hi. I've just purchased an M-Audio Delta 1010-LT soundcard and am awaiting its arrival. I'm wondering if anybody has any advice (or horror stories) relating to setting it up to work on my Compaq Presario computer with AMD Athlon processor and Windows XP Home Edition.

Also, any advice or tips on using it for instrument (guitar, bass, keyboard) and vocal recording would be appreciated.

Thanks much!

Well, how about installing the drivers, putting the card in a free PCI slot and start recording? There isn't much to it you know. M-Audio cards usually install flawlessly.

Hi, Christiaan. Thanks! I hope it's that easy. I'm just concerned about system compatibilities and such, which is why I added an interest in anybody's horror stories. For instance, M-Audio says there should be no problem running on Windows XP -- but one of their tech guys told me the Windows has to be installed in Standard Mode, which apparently is not how it was loaded when the computer was built (it apparently comes with some sort of office installation). So there's problem No. 1. I'm also not very well informed about differences between things like SyncRAM, which my computer has, and PC100 RAM, which is what M-Audio shows as the minimal system standard. I know I have 512 MB and they say less than that -- but I have no idea whether mine is the same/compatible with theirs.

Again, for anybody out there, it's a Compaq Presario (5420 US) with an AMD Athlon 1.47 GHz processor, 512 MB SyncRAM, 80GB UltraDMA hard drive, and Windows XP Home Edition. Ring any bells for anybody when they put in their 1010-LT card?

They recommend Standard vs. APCI (I think that's the acronym), which has to do with how Interupts are assigned to PCI devices. My PC is a Dell 4550 and I was able to install the Delta 44 without any problems on top of the existing Dell XP installation (which is APCI). I think you should be ok. The drivers are a little weird in that they don't have their own installation program, but they should come with decent instructions. Make sure you download the latest drivers off of the website. I've been running my Delta 44 since September 2000 (3 years!) without any problems. It's been on a Dell 450mhz running Win98 and then Win2K, and now on my Dell 4550 (2.6 ghz) w/ XP Home. Good luck!

Let us know how it turns out...
(I'm trying to bump my post count to 500, 10 more to go!!!!)
