I've got a Firepod which I use for recording with my laptop, and it's always been great. However, I'm considering joining a band and i want to use my soft synths at practices...obviously the firepod would be a bit annoying to transport. Can anyone suggest a cheapish, compact soundcard I could transport with my laptop, which would allow me to play my soft synths ? and would there be any issues with having two soundcards associated with the same computer? I am something of a novice!

thanks all

Since your already familiar with the firepod what about a firebox?

I don't think you would have any problems as long as your not trying to use both cards at the same time...

But the rule of thumb is usually the more cards the more problems.

Geez..... transporting a single-space piece of hardware to the gig is too much effort???

Do you use the laptop keyboard for triggers too because a keyboard is too much to drag around???

Be weary of getting another (different) interface to do this. I did the same thing when I had a firepod, and I bought an Echo Indigo IO to be able to mix and work on projects and also play soft synths without having to have the Firepod there. Once I installed the drivers for the Echo card, the Firepod would not stay in sync again after that, even though they were never operating at the same time. When I uninstalled the drivers for my Echo Indigo, the Firepod then worked fine.

c7sus, I have my firepod set up on my desk with all my other bits and bobs and to unplug everything 2 or 3 times a week (for rehearsals, I made no mention of gigs...), put it all in a suitable carrying case and take it with me on the tube would be a hassle. I'm hardly likely to need 8 audio recording inputs when I'm just using it to play soft synths!

Thanks for the constructive comments everyone.. I have heard some horror stories from those who have tried multiple soundcards so I'll have to have a serious think.

Ah....... you must forgive me for we have zero mass transit over here. Well, we have some, but it's really a joke.

I tote all my stuff around in a honkin' F-250 SuperCab truck that gets about 12 mpg.

I can't imagine being limited like that by circumstance.
