Hi there!! this is my first post here, I'm from Argentina and I'd like to here some opinions, I'm performing at concert next month and I'd like to have it registered for my own (By the way... I play the piano.. and the style is "classical")

The venue is a small hall, not conceived for concerts. The room acoustics is awful, and the place will be fully crowded so Ambience miking is not even an option (there is no place)

I'm performing at a grand piano, perhaps a Yahama C7 or similar so the source condition is the best. I'm planning to place a Matched Pair of Earthworks TC30K at the front of the case (just beyond the hammers), displaying an X pointing slightly towars the tail.

other mics I have available to use: AKG Solid Tube, Audio Technica 4033, RODE NTK,

I need some opinions and advising on how can I achieve the best possible sound with the few resources I have (I can only record 2-Traks).

Thanks!

I mic my baby grand with an Equation Audio F.20 mic.

That 's OK, what about Mic placing?

By the way, I've never heard of this, I've searched the developer's site and the lack of tech specs, like polar pattern and frequency response, makes me seriously doubt . This brand is not available on Latin America anyway, but thanks !

There are very few mics which would do better for a stereo pair on a grand than a pair of TC30's (same as TC30K). Because of the ambient noise, I would place those 2 omnis pretty damned close to the soundboard. Open the lid, and place the mics like overheads on a drum kit, but maybe only 0.3 meters from the strings. I would divide the strings into thirds, and place the mics right on the lines between the thirds. The closer you are, the lower your gain will be, and the less ambient noise you'll get. Too close, and you'll start getting too much hammer and pedal noise. I think that's the best you can do with the situation and mics you have.Good luck-Richie

I cant wait to see how the pair of at3035 that I have will work on a grand piano...I have a lady that performs with the philharmonic set up to do a CD for the ballet.
