I have a BOSS ME-30 which I use for every thing. Most effects in this box are great (give or take a few of the distortions). The only real problem I am noticing with this stomp box is the noise reduction feature. I was wondering if anyone could confirm for me whether I should use a seperate noise gate, either pedal or rack mounted, to hush this signal up a bit better. The built in noise reduction on the ME-30 doesn't seem to cut it as good as I would like.

If the noise is coming from the distortion, you will need to run a gate before and after it. The first one keeps the noise of the guitar from being amplified in the distortion and the second one gets rid of the hiss that the distortion makes. Make sure, in any case, that you put the gate before any delays or reverbs, so as not to cut them off.

I am considering adding an additional noise gate to my chain so maybe it would be better to use a noise gate before my ME-30 and simultaneously use the built in noise gate for my post distortion pre delays, chorus etc.. That way I have noise reduction before and after my distortions. Please let me know what you think.
