11' x 13' project studio. Carpeted floor. 10.5' ceiling. Sheetrock walls.

I want to be able to record vocal and acoustic guitar. I have read many threads on acoustic treatment. Right now, lot of echo.

One question, for example, is whether bass traps in corner need to go floor to ceiling, middle of wall, at floor?

Also, need the Wife Acceptance Factor to be high.

Not been impressed with foam, so thinking more in terms of FG panels.

According to GIK or ATS sites (cannot remember which) I need 12 panels. That seems like a lot of panels.

You should start by trapping the corners that you can (wife permitting). Do you plan to buy or build?

Trapping is absolutely necessary plus you must treat parallel wall surfaces. Never let untreated surfaces face each other.

John

How many panels you get depends on how good a result you hope for. Twelve panels is definitely not too many for a room that size, though you have to get the right type and put them in the right place. But even four bass traps and two or three mid-high frequency absorbers at the side-wall and ceiling reflection points will help a lot. More here:

Thanks for the replies! One question

I have not seen a definitive answer on this: Do the corners need to be trapped floor to ceiling, or is a 2'x4' bass trap adequate midway up the corner enough?

TIA

It's very simple: The more total corner surface you treat the better. Always. So floor to ceiling is better than one panel. Having panels that are thicker is also better than thinner panels.

^ What this man says.

If the 4 wall junctions aren't enough treatment, there are also wall/ceiling, wall floor.
