I have a Digital Audio system AWIA NSX-330. It has a Mic input for karaoke.
The Mic supplied with the system works well only when it is held at a distance of one inch or less from the mouth.
I purchased a Sony F-V220 Uni-directional Dynamic microphone hoping that it will work when holding it at a distance of 6 to 8 inches from the mouth, but the result is the same. This also works well when held almost touching the mouth.
Is it the system not working properly or the microphone selection is wrong?
Please suggest the correct type of microphone.
Thanks,
R. Rossey

It sounds to me like everything is working as it should. If you give it a hotter signal you'll likely get feedback. You could always switch to a battery powered mic for a hotter signal, or put a preamp between the mic and unit, but that'll likely give it too hot a signal. Distortion, feedback, dogs living with cats, fire and brimstone, ..............

Your system was designed for karaoke, not for recording vocals. And of course, to avoid copyright infringement, the source and vocal mix cannot be recorded. You could probably give the thing a hotter signal with a mic designed for a 3.5mm miniplug output, such as:

but I would recommend killing the speaker output to prevent painful feedback. You may then find that the system has a built in limiter to prevent recording over a certain level, or you may then run into distortion issues as Shadow suggests. I don't think any of us can honestly tell you what will happen if you plug that puppy into your system, but my guess is, it will work. It helps that the mic is designed for the mic input on a computer, which is equivalent to the mic input on your AIWA. I hope this helps, because it took me 11 minutes to download the PDF manual for that AIWA.-Richie
