All of a sudden my driver is invalid!!...how is that, I was just recording yesterday!!
Suddenly I can no longer record...what's up...getting error messages!

Reboot is always the first thing to try! (Just be glad you're not on a fly-by-wire aircraft!)
Beyond that, a couple of other things to look at:
First, within Windows 7 and Vista, it's not uncommon for the operating system to arbitrarily reset the Sample Rate and Bit Depth without telling you. Go to the Sound control panel in Windows and check that these are set to match what you want to use in Audition.
Finally, it happens every so often that your audio interface drivers become corrupted. Go to the web site for the manufacturer of your gear and download the latest driver, then install it. This usually sorts things out.
