This is more of a livesound question than homerecording, but what's a better subwoofer in the JBL MPro series.... the 255S 2x15 sub or the 418 1x18? The about the same price and use 500 and 600 watts RMS respectively. I want to stick with JBL because the rest of my PA system consists of JBLs and Crown power amps, and I plan on getting a driverack PA, which conveniently has presets for JBLs and crowns.

I like the 2x15s height, as it elevates my eons' HF drivers to ear level, eliminated the need for stands/poles on one pair of speakers.

I'm not familiar with these enclosures since I'm not into live sound really, but are they folded horn or direct radiator enclosures? A folded horn will do wonders for your bass response not to mention add more of an element of directional control.

If they are direct radiator cabs, The 215 cab will definitely move more air and the response will be slightly tighter than the 118. You should definitely compare specs. Which speaker has the higher sensitivity. A difference between a 91db@1w/1m and 98db@1w/1m can really mean the world.

The 2x15 is sort of a folded horn enclosure, whereas the 1x18 is direct. The 2x15 actually has a higher sensativity at 102dB vs. 101. The main thing is that the 2x15 is quite a bit larger and the 1x18 is in JBL's higher line of speakers. By specs only, the 2x15 wins.
