I have recently set up a small home studio, and i am using Behringer Truth B2031 monitors. I have come to realise that the low end bass is not powerful enough below about 50Hz. Because of this i am now looking at purchasing a subwoofer to compliment my monitors. A few questions:

1. What subwoofer should i get (size, brand, specs)?
2. How do i set up a subwoofer for most linear response?
3. Do i need an amp or any additional equipment?

Thankyou in advance.

Before you get a sub, consider the room you're in...... is there a node at your listening positioning that is dropping out that particular fundamental? Is it weak at that frequency but boomy in other above it?? If so, a sub is not going to help.....

In fact, if your room is bad acoustically, a sub will worsen it.......

Eggs,

I agree with BlueBear. It's easy to tell if the problem is your speakers or your room. Play a sine wave at the frequency of interest and walk around the room. If the level comes up in the corners or near the back wall, that proves your speakers are playing that frequency okay.

Response below 50 Hz is nice but not mandatory. Far more important is to have a flat response between about 80 and 300 Hz. Play sine wave tones within that range and walk around the room. You'll discover pretty quickly that your room is by far the real problem.
