Would it be ok to mount a speaker inside a kick drum to be used as a sub kick? I had this idea because I'm buying a 2nd hand kit for £35 off a friend and fancy using it for everything i would usually cringe at needing to use my kit for, such as gigs where other bands are using it, and drum tuition. Would the sub kick be ok for gigs? I thought about doing it before but was put off for aesthetic reasons, and that is how i thought of this.

The subkick was never meant to be the only kick mic in a setup. It really only picks up the lows and doesn't do anything for the attack. You could mount it in there but you would still need something else.

Yeh i was planning on having something else with it, i was just wundering if it'd be ok to mount it inside.

What would be the best size speaker? And would any do?

Would this speaker be ok? What about the impedance? 16ohms? and mics into the 100s? I remember something about impedance of mics etc it in electronics. Doesn't the input need to be at least 10 times the ohm of the output of the mic. So this would be ok?

Any speaker will work. Experiment with different sizes to see which sounds most usable to you. Plug it into a passive DI box and you'll be fine.
