lately my midi output has started stuttering, when i play midi files in players (like Windows Media) and when playing a midi file in Cakewalk.. it's not terribly noticeable usually, but it's still annoying..

i'm not sure what could have triggered it, because i don't recall making any sort of change to my system, before the stuttering started showing up.. i suspect that maybe it's an IRQ/resource conflict between my sound card and other devices.. but i suppose it could be a number of things..

i've had problems with syncing in Cakewalk (Pro Audio 9) with audio (as opposed to midi), but this time it's midi and it's midi output all around (so, it doesn't seem to be a problem within a particular program/player)..

any ideas?

thanks

here's my specs:

ECS K7S5A (updated version of 'HoneyX' unofficial BIOS)
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ (clock speed 1.53 Ghz)
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro (OEM) (updated drivers)
Cornea MP704 black LCD-TFT 17" monitor (retail)
1024 MB PC2700 DDR Corsair
Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum (updated drivers, retail)
Creative Inspire 4.1 4400 (4 satellites, 1 bass, retail)
Zalman 'Theatre 6' 5.1 surround sound headphones (retail)
Western Digital EIDE 80GB 7200RPM ATA100 8.9ms (OEM)
IBM SCSI 15000RPM 18.4GB Ultra 160 (160 MB/s) (hardware hogs (games, mainly) on this drive)
Adaptec 29160N SCSI card - Ultra 160
TTGI 520w powersupply
Enermax CS-3051L-B3A case (black)
Windows XP Home (WinUpdated - minus Service Pack 2 (yet))
Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical (OEM)
university connection (T3 or some sort of OC connection) - i've recorded as much as 57 mbits/s down (~7 mbytes/s), and as much as 4 mbits/s (~500 kbytes/s) up

i seem to have fixed the stuttering.. i tried reinstalling my soundcard drivers.. and haven't had any stuttering since.. drivers must have been a bit corrupted or something..

So...problem solved! Feel free to post again if the dread stuttering returns...
