"yeah, that sounds better" (before i even make a change)
I can top that. Pretending to make a change to make a dipshit singer shut up and have him say "Oh yeah! That's a LOT better!"

I had one vocalist say "I can sing that better" (after 15 takes) and I say okay lets record, then I play back the same track and they say "see I told you I could do it better!" not knowing it's the same track as before.... :D

haha, not bad. or, having the singer complain about not being able to hear. so, i went out to the vocal booth during playback to hear what he was hearing through the cans, only to hear a distorted mess that made me temporarily loose my hearing!!! WHY DO THEY HAVE TO HAVE THE CANS THAT LOUD!!!!!!!!!!

I had one rapper come to the studio with a two track mixdown of a beat and he said, "can you remove that tom drum"

I had a bass player in that was def in one ear and we were doing a tracking session. He says to me, hey i need everything piped into my left ear. I said well at this point everything is mono so it doesn't matter, and he said yeah but i need it in my left ear. Like I wasn't even talking the first time I said IT DIDN'T FREAKING MATTER ITS IN MONO. So then I had to proceed to explain what it meant to hear something in mono, same thing in both ears. Whats worse than a def dumb bassplayer.

i do a lot of post production work...and the best is when you record a voice over track and then the client a few days later says, "Instead of him saying 'Buy it at your local store'....can you make him say 'Buy it at your local market'?"
as if I can just magically create words for him to say out of thin air.

no...really, I can sing it!! you've got autotune, right?

should we keep that take? do another one??

(getting sacastic here...as they know that last one bit the dust too!)

I had a friend over to do a guitar solo on a song written by another friend. After 60 takes (no shit) he finally asked me what I thought. When I told him he needs to go home and "write" a solo for it he told me that he didn't want to write a solo for it because he wanted it to be "spontanious".

How fucking spontanious is it after 60 takes????

maybe we need another doobie!! (sorry trackrat!!! lol!!) :) :) :) :p :p

That doobie is for the engineer, not the band. :D
What I always hear is how rehearsed the band is, "oh, we'll do these tunes in one take". Fourty-three takes later the band is argueing on how the break goes.......
