Stupid Soundcard question

If I record on my cheap onboard soundcard(which isn't half bad; an Alegro ESS1989) until I get a good soundcard and monitors, will the sounds(MIDI especially) recorded with the old soundcard sound better on the new soundcard. Or will they still sound the same way as they sounded on the old soundcard, only a bit better.

BTW, I am looking at an Echo MIA MIDI card which I purchased and returned, but couldn't use because I also need powered monitors. I am now saving for the card and monitors. Any suggestions on any good monitors new or used that I can use with the MIA for say $250 or so??

There will be absolutely no difference in sound as far as MIDI is concerned because MIDI by itself does not produce sound. It is simply a set of instructions like note on, note off and such.

However, if you record audio, there will be a difference mainly due to the quality of the AD converters. Cheaper or shall I say consumer level cards don't have very accurate clocks, which affects stereo image. They also can have higher aliasing artifacts.

However, you will probably still have a better quality during playback due to the quality of the DA converters of the MIA.
