Stupid Cubase 5 question

It happens that in some projects I start recording with a simple click on the record button but on others I have to click on play and then record, which is annoying.

Why is this? How can I start recording with just one click on the record button?

Preferences>VST>Auto monitoring>Tape Machine Style. I think........

Make sure "Sync Init." is engaged (on) on the transport.
