You got to funkafize.
You know, I was looking at studio monitors, and they basically look like speakers. So why get studio monitors instead of using my home stereo speakers (infinity's)?

Frequency response and accuracy. Do a search - this has been discussed a million times and you will learn a lot by reading through the massive database of this site's history. :)

basically, studio moniters will give you a more true, clear sound. then at least you know if your song sounds good on rele good monitors, it'll sound good on anything else. if you mix it on average speakers, good speakers could make your mixing sound bollocks. I have mackie HR824's, never has my recording sounded bad on other speakers

Until you mix on your home stereo, then buy real monitors and mix on those you probaby won't take anyones word for it. I thought the same way you do, about a year ago I used my sony stereo and speakers to mix songs, they always sounded great on the stereo and totally shitty on everything else. Then I bought some bx5's and listened to the mixes i did with the stereo, they were insanely bad. Next I upgraded to event 20/20 bas v2's and they made my bx5's sound really bad but now all my mixes translate beautifully.

if you really can't afford monitors, buy some good headphones, they'll get closer than normal speakers, although slightly different.....
