You do realize that this is homerecording.com right?

I love these guys . . . Soundforge, Acid, Vegas, Waves Platinum, and a supporting cast of dozens . . . why would a tracking studio spend more on software than microphones? Why not use Reaper and buy a U47 with the savings :D I wonder, I wonder, I wonder . . .

And the first things on their list are the computers, which have the least to do with how well the finished product turns out.

Why waste money on Neumann when there are fabulous Naiant mics?

I'm thankful I do this for fun and NOT as my primary source of income. 'round these parts, places are charging $10-$15 an hour... and some will offer flat rate $75 - $100 a song... (or less...one place was $25 a song... guess how THAT sounded) There's no way to maintain an actual building lease, utilities etc... Every year it seem 5-6 of these places pop up, and every year 5-6 of them disappear. With all due respect to this forum... anyone with a computer, and interface, and some cracked software thinks they can "be a studio." 20 years at it should be worth sumptin' ya think? lol. I've been too lazy to even update my website at this point. :o I keep thinking eventually it will pass.

I completely agree. I think I'd go batty if I had to do a bunch of jingles and bands I didn't like. I've gotten to the point that I have so much neat stuff and a decent ear where the stuff doesn't suck so it's fun to record bands that I know in exchange for a minimal donation (I usually tell them to pay what they can spare, they're broke like me). Plus I get to work with tape and tubes while listening to good music, so it's a pretty good day.

I'm charging $150 per song, just as a side job on the weekends, and I'm PACKED FULL for the next 2 months with bands. I still have another job I work on weekdays so I make ends meet, and I'm still 18......

I worked on a few occasions with grammy award winning producer who taught me a number of new tricks at the same time... One of the things he mentioned that stuck with me was almost in passing as we were evaluating some mixing I had done. I mentioned I was given a total of 20 hours to mix 13 songs (do the math) and never got them where I wanted them... He said his typical mix was 15 hours per song... JUST MIXING. I drooled over having that amount of time. You're packed full of bands because that's phenomenally under priced for anything that sounds even remotely decent. I first stepped foot in a studio over 20 years ago, and refuse to go bargain basement just to record something. My time and knowledge should be worth something. I'd rather enjoy a nice spring day than work in a specialized field, buying my own expensive equipment for minimum wage... or even less for that matter.

$150/song is fine as long as you have a 3 hour per song cap. :D;)

can't win for losin'

Yeah, for sure a prosumer studio but it looks nice and from what I've heard it doesn't sound bad. He's no Harvey Gerst but who is?:D

indeed, we aren't a top-of-the-line million dollar studio, and yes, this is homerecording.com

i started out as a recording enthusiast 15 years ago and have since built and upgraded my studio over time. yes, it's in my home, but as jonnyc was kind enough to point out, i get excellent sound and great results from the software and equipment i use. i've spend time and money making sure it's not just some software in a computer on a desk in a bedroom. it takes up two large rooms, both with hardwood floors, acoustic treatments, etc.

i don't have a neumann because they're too damn expensive and i can get the sounds i need out of what i have. besides i would rather spend the money on the software i use because it all does more than one microphone for $2000.

i've spent years in high school and college studying music theory and composition along with audio engineering. i'm not saying i'm the greatest, but when combined with years of hands on experience and i'm pretty sure i know what i'm doing, just like the rest of you. i agree that we should get compensated for our time, knowledge, and experience. i'm a guy trying to make a living at the thing i love most.

i don't say any of this to defend myself because really, it comes down to my clients, and they don't ever seem to complain. i do find it interesting however that no matter what a person posts, there are sure to be people who want to say something negative regardless of how positive or innocent the original post. i'll change the order of my equipment list if that will make you feel better. sorry to have disturbed your happy little forum.

Pretty sure the one and only beef was etiquette issues related to posting shameless plugs for your business in a "Free Ads for Music / Recording EQUIPMENT" section not services for hire. This is known as, Spam. As I recall, advertising isn't usually free, and I like to think that Dragon has an itchy billing finger.

This, and the fact that he is basically trying to sell ice to eskimos.

Many forums like this are like a community in a weird sense. This one certainly is IMO. Before getting so upset about the response here try becoming part of the community, getting to know some people and obtaining some Rep.

If you were selling a physical item I wouldn't buy it from you simply because you don't have any Rep or previous posts I can read to gauge your personality from.

Just popping into a forum as a complete nobody and expecting people to respect your ad is probably worse than walking up to a car stopped at a light and trying to sell the driver flowers. I may at least consider the flowers because I can see the person selling them and decide if they are genuine or some strung-out junky who just robbed some nice old ladie's flower garden.

Please don't be offended. All I was saying is that, based on your equipment list, setup, and prices, you qualify as a home recording studio. (So do I, and I got a lot more stuff.)

Since most of the people here are also home recordists, I don't see how advertising your studio here will benefit your studio.
