Hello-

I'm in the process of turning my bedroom into a faux studio and I need some help with soundproofing. I have a couple bare walls that I'm sure reflect a lot of sound, and I want to minimize that.

I've poked around on the internet a bit at actual soundproofing sites, and they're selling that "egg-crate" patterned foam for $37.50 per 4'x8' piece. That's a little too pricey for me. Where are some other places to get this kind of material for less money? And if no such places exist, what are some other good, inexpensive ways to soundproof a room?

I'm also curious: what do people here do for the ceiling? I thought about buying one of those very thing tapestries that people hang on their ceilings, but it's so thin that I'm not sure it would make much of a difference.

Thanks!

First, that is not sound proofing, it's acoustic treatment. Sound proofing refers to reducing the level of sound transmitted to other rooms, not improving the sound quality within a room.

Have a look at the Acoustics FAQ, second in the list on my Articles page:

This large article explains all the basics, and then some, in great detail.
