I hear real good things about both of these tube / SS preamps. When you really get down to it they have practically the same features but with a 500.00 dollar difference. I bet Alan Hyatt had a 2BA-221 sitting right next to him when he was laying the VTB1 out, cutting corners here and there. While these two units have vastly different components (starved plate voltage vs. full), they both seem to have earned their places and probably moreso of the VTB1 strictly from it's price standpoint. I would love to read or hear a shootout between these two preamps. Does anyone know of one ? Or does anyone actually have these two units?
