Stupid Question. Alan is selling an early c1 without a pad. what is a pad? Is a c1 without a pad worth the time of day. Unless your a collector of chinnese mic's. I'm not a collector of anything I can't use. the question is it usable. Also were there any problems early c1s.

I didn't know they had any earlier versions of the C1. Is it a beta?

Imagine

it has a really early serial number

One of the first. what is a pad in reation to a condenser mic?

Be nice. It's a cut switch to reduce the output of the mic, usually by 10dB. Most mics do NOT have a pad. It's mainly useful in helping to use two mics with different output levels. It's absence should not effect the overall quality of the mic.

Unless you are recording ragein' volumes you dont have to worry about "pads"..Basicly it allows you to record very loud sources like inside a kik drum/loud guit amps/ect...I've never had to use the pad at the mic for vocs..acoustic guitars...Think of it like a "sensitivity switch" on the mic..

Basically the only common complaint about the C1 was the fact that it did not have a -10db pad or bass rolloff switch...

Alan has responded to this criticism by revising the spec for the C1 adding....

....suprise! a -10db pad and a bass rolloff switch.

"no pad" does not equal a beta mic, think of it as the 2001 model C1. In 2002, the C1 will have the aforementioned switches.

Actually, I don't use pads either, but Queue was right, many people kept asking me to design one into the mic, so I did.

See...I listen to you all. For the record, they are shipping now.
