Studio Projects 8 Channel Mic Pre?

Well, not exactly new. They've been shipping for a year or so, and PMI has been talking about them for quite a few years before that. They were originally planned to come out under the Joe Meek brand, but PMI decided to sell them under the Studio Projects name instead.

I've got three of them. They work fine, they sound good. They are fairly generic mic pres, but are decidedly better than your typical mixer pre. Don't expect them to stand up to the high end units. But they're in the same ballpark as, say, Sytek or Presonus. Definitely better than their $600 price tag would suggest.

I use them in my live recording rig, where their mix bus comes in very handy for basic monitoring of whatever I'm tracking.

Probably just a coincidence - but doesn't it seem like a number of the PMI marketed products have more pots and switches per square inch than anything I've ever seen.

I'm not saying that is a bad thing, except if you have big pickle fingers like me. Ah, for the good old days of LA2A's with just three knobs and two switches spread out over about a square foot of real estate!

If you think their stuff is bad check out the Presonus Eureka. So many damn knobs on a single rackspace faceplate, it made me go nuts. I couldn't ever really memorize the knobs so I always had to look to make sure I had the correct one.

Myriad, if you're looking in that price range, i'd prolly go with with the Presonus Digimax LT or something, found here: http://www.presonus.com/digimax_lt.html

To me it has more features, such as the ADAT outs and the inserts on all channels. I've heard nothing but good things on the pres as well. Just a thought though. Either would fit the bill. I'm looking at the Digimax for the ADAT output.

Nah, I was really just curious about it more than anything.
