I got a pair of Yahmaha YST M10 powered monitors with the purchase of my Yahmaha multitrack recorder... abt 20 watts I believe Q: ...will these be adequate for a 5' x 6' control room enviroment? Or what about Altec Lansing multimedia speakers with a subwoofer which i also already own .....would either be suitable as opposed to a the huge pair of home stereo speakers (which I also have)??? From what i am reading there is no substitute for true reference monitors, which I can't afford to buy at the moment..but the Yamaha came packed with YST M10's referred to as "monitor speakers" for that purpose..... However, my personal computer has now replaced the my stand- alone Yamaha tape multiplex recorder. I am trying out Powertracks Pro Audio as recomended....so will these powered monitors (hopefully) work ??

I have exactly the same monitors on my work computer as I am typing this (I'd rate them more like 5 watts, BTW). These are for hearing computer sounds, not for listening to music! Don't be impressed at all by the word "monitor"...after all, you're looking at one right now, aren't you?

I'd use the Altec-Lansings if possible for mixing. The one nice thing about the Yamahas is that they're self-contained and small, so are good for portable playback and such.
