What is a good studio mic for $200? I was looking at rode, studio projects, and mxl's. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yea really depends what your looking for...i personally use a behringer b-2 as a vocal condenser mic....thats a decent choice in that area...just my two bits...and as for mxls i just got a pair of 603s and so far I love them for small condenser mics.

Well I was looking for one suited for vocal and one for acoustic guitar.

should go test someout and see what you like. the ksm 27 from shure does good things for a guitar and voices but it is 300. the rode nt1a is good.

If you are not too picky I would suggest the Studio Projects B1 and a Shure 57. You could land both for under $200 total and get some nice sounding tracks down. I have Studio Projects B1's and I have a C3. I like the C3 a lot more for vocals, but it cost more too.

The CAD M179 is probably the best value in $200 mics around. Multiple patterns and great all purpose sound, still one of my favorite mics for acoustic type instruments like overheads and I've got much more expensive stuff around.

My true love of them is with overheads though, because I dig a beefy full kit sound and the M179 delivers. Good vocal and acoustic mic as well though.

My $0.02

100 % behind the warhead! cannot beat it for $200. you might find some mics (C1 or something) that sound good on one thing but across the board the Cad m179 is unbeatable.

Hi bro... it's good seeing you helping others out on hr.com again. :)

Anyway... I also agree with Warhead about the CAD M179.

anyone have some tunes available that you used the m179 on? overhead, acoustic, or vocal.

Depending on what you'd be using it for, don't rule out the Nady RSM-2 ribbon. I think mine was about $210 on eBay. Thus far, every post I've seen on the boards here about the sound quality has been positive.

I wouldn't think of using it as an overhead---the weight alone would warrant one of those $100-ish tripod-style mic boom for that use to avoid concussion risk---but it's sweet for vocals. I would expect it to sound good for guitar, though I've never tried it.
